what if i just… ®

We often perceive risk where there is none.  Or, the thought of doing something new or different creates for us such uncertainty that we hold back never really going forward into what we truly desire.  A friend once analyzed the word “impossible” and in her quest to imagine new possibilities for herself, she converted the word “impossible” to “I’m Possible.”  At its core, that is what my “what if I just…” ® work is about.

One summer, I spent almost every morning before going to work painting at my home in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.  The limited time that I had to paint (between getting up and needed to be at work at 9:00 a.m.) was a challenge for someone who typically labored over each and every painting that I did.  One morning feeling trapped between a blank piece of paper and a ticking clock, I went out into my garden and picked a daylily that had not yet opened.  Once back at my work table, I grabbed a black pen and thought only “what if I just…”  I quickly sketched the lily and then began washing in with the vibrant watercolors already on my palate.  When the image was complete, I simply wrote the word “blossom” underneath.

That is how this line of work started.  I love metaphor and that has made ongoing creation of new pieces a joy.  I hope that the viewer will find some message here that speaks to her/him personally.  I believe that transformation does not have to be complex or painful.  It is not a big risk to make a simple change.  Small steps and subtle shifts, the willingness to trust oneself and the knowledge that more is possible can go a long way in supporting us in achieving what we want.
